Description
Causes of nail discoloration:
Candidiasis:
Infection with or disease caused by a fungus of the genus Candida;called also monilia, moniliasis.
Yellow nail syndrome:
A very rare disorder marked by a combination of lymphedema of the lower extremities, recurrent pneumonia, bronchiectasis, and yellowed nails.
Onycholysis:
Loosening of the nail from the nail bed beginning at the free edge and proceeding to the root.Nails may also appear lightened to a whitish-yellow color.
Onychogryphosis:
Abnormal hypertrophy and increased curvature of a nail, e.g. big toe, that often seen in elderly patients or may occur following trauma.
Lichen Planus:
A skin disease characterized by wide flat papule eruptions covered by a horny glazed film, and marked by intense itching and lesions on the oral mucosa.
Psoriasis:
A chronic skin disease marked by circumscribed red patches covered with white scales, and sometimes color change or pitting of the nails.
